National housebuilder, Crest Nicholson and Young Lives vs Cancer, the UK’s leading charity supporting children and young people with cancer, are proud to announce the extension of their charity partnership.
Since the two-year partnership was announced in April 2023, employees from Crest Nicholson have participated in a wide range of fundraising activities, including sponsored treks, golf days, charity balls, and running the London Marathon.
Following the success of their partnership, which has so far raised over £150,000 for the charity, the company have today announced an extension of the partnership for another year.
The money raised supports Young Lives vs Cancer in their aim to help young people with cancer (0-25) and their families from the moment of diagnosis. Their specialist social workers are there to provide the support they need, when they need it such as liaising with a child’s school, a parent’s employer or helping to navigate the costs of cancer. The charity also provides financial grants to help families with the costs of cancer such as travel to hospital, food and extra clothing. Their ten Home from Homes also offer families a free place to stay nearby to hospital.
Martyn Clark, Chief Executive Officer of Crest Nicholson, explained:
“Leaving a positive legacy is a core value at Crest Nicholson, making our partnership with Young Lives vs Cancer a natural fit. The work they do with children and young people facing cancer is so important and I have had the pleasure of meeting parents who have been supported by the charity, and have visited one of their homes from home, seeing first-hand how the money we raise can help support young cancer patients and provide comforting spaces for their families to stay.
I am immensely proud of staff from across Crest Nicholson who have participated in challenges and activities to help raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer and I am delighted to extend this partnership for a further year.”
Last year, Young Lives vs Cancer helped 6,849 children and young people with cancer and their families find the strength to face cancer. They gave out 5,057 financial grants to the value of £840,879 helping families to cope with the costs of cancer. The latest Cancer Costs report from the charity found that families with a child on active treatment spend an extra £700 a month.
Rachel Kirby-Rider the Chief Executive Officer at Young Lives vs Cancer, said:
“After an incredible two-year partnership with Crest Nicholson, which has already raised thousands for children and young people with cancer, we are so pleased they have extended their support for another year.
“Over 4,000 children and young people receive a cancer diagnosis every year in the UK. Our social workers are there to provide specialist support from the moment of diagnosis, to help with everything from speaking to a parent’s employer to taking away the stress of navigating the benefits system so they can focus on what matters, getting through treatment.
“We’re looking forward to seeing what Crest Nicholson do to fundraise this year and work together to make sure children and young people with cancer get the support they need, when they need it.”
